Job summary

Mapbox invites applications for an Engineering Manager overseeing the Incidents organization. You’ll lead high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary teams building the Incidents product using scalable backend services, data pipelines, and AI workflows to detect, validate, and deliver live road updates.

You will own the team’s priorities, mentor engineers, manage on‑call responsibilities, and align work with product strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or equivalent practical hands‑on engineering experience.
• 5+ years of people management experience with remote teams.
• Deep knowledge building scalable web services and data pipelines in AWS.
• Culture of quality, monitoring, metrics, triage, and iterative improvement.
• Ownership of vision, strategy, and product execution.
• Strong customer focus and communication skills.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Deliver complex, high‑impact projects while providing technical mentorship.
• Operate day‑to‑day and be hands‑on in project management and sprint planning.
• Manage on‑call and related operational responsibilities.
• Empathize with internal and external customers and translate needs into features.
• Hire, retain, mentor, and grow the team’s capabilities.
• Drive company, product, and team objectives with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering on long‑term strategy.
• Establish and iterate on operational metrics to meet customer expectations.
• Promote best engineering practices across Mapbox.
