Job summary

Snap Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Maps backend team. You will lead a high‑impact group building scalable backend services powering Snap Map, working with product, data science, and engineering partners to drive strategy and delivery.

The role emphasizes mentoring, architectural decisions, and leveraging AI tools to accelerate development while maintaining security and reliability. NYC-based office preferred with policy requiring 4+ days in the office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical field such as computer science or equivalent years of practical work experience.
• 9+ years of post‑Bachelor’s software development experience; or a Master’s degree +8+ years; or a PhD +5+ years of post‑grad software development experience.
• 1+ years of experience managing a team or acting as a technical lead.
• Experience with distributed systems and backend service development.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of backend engineers, in a fast‑paced, quick‑to‑market environment.
• Set the strategy, build a roadmap, create measurable goals, and lead your team to deliver.
• Collaborate with Product, Operation, Data Science and Engineering teams, and executive stakeholders.
• Evaluate the technical tradeoffs of major decisions and be a strong technical mentor.
• Hire, grow and retain high‑performing team members.
• Utilize AI tools and high velocity engineering workflows to design and ship scalable services while upholding rigorous standards for code correctness, security, and production‑ready quality code.
