Job summary

Effingham County Board of Commissioners seeks a Director of Engineering / County Engineer to lead County Engineering Services, set technical standards, and oversee roads, stormwater, utilities, and parks Capital projects from planning through turnover.

You will supervise division leads, coordinate with GDOT and other stakeholders, manage contracts and budgets, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements while guiding a team of engineers and project coordinators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Georgia, or ability to obtain by comity.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible engineering and capital-project leadership.
• Experience managing complex capital projects, contracts, budgets and schedules.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and procurement.

Responsibilities

• Lead County Engineering Services and supervise division leads and project coordinators.
• Direct capital project oversight from planning to turnover and ensure on-time delivery.
• Establish priorities, standards, procedures, and performance metrics.
• Oversee contracts, grants, budgets, and procurement with cross-department coordination.
• Coordinate with GDOT, utilities, consultants, and the public; communicate status clearly.
