Job summary

Electric Power Engineers (EPE) seeks a Principal Engineer with a focus on Behind-the-Meter gas generation to join our Energy Resources team. You will lead feasibility studies, design criteria, and FEED through commissioning, mentoring engineers, and supporting clients including hyperscale data centers.

Remote-US/Canada option. We value senior technical leadership, strong communication, and a track record in large, complex power projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related; master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in power generation, utility infrastructure, or large industrial energy systems.
• Strong understanding of BTM generation interfacing with EMS and plant controls.
• Experience leading gas generation facilities of 50 MW+ (100 MW+ preferred).
• Knowledge of gas turbines, reciprocating engines, MV/HV systems, and interconnection.
• Experience as Owner’s Engineer / Independent Engineer / EPC lead or client-facing advisor.
• Leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical writing skills.
• PE license preferred.
• Experience with hyperscale or AI data center developments preferred.
• Familiarity with major OEMs and standards (IEEE, IEC, NFPA) preferred.
• Active participation in industry task forces; AI/automation experience valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead feasibility studies, generation strategy, and technology selection for BTM gas generation for data centers.
• Evaluate engine, turbine, CHP/CCHP options based on reliability, efficiency, emissions, lifecycle cost, and maintainability.
• Advise on sizing, redundancy, and integration with interconnections, BESS, microgrids, and critical infrastructure.
• Develop Basis of Design, design criteria, specs, and engineering standards for client projects.
• Serve as Owner’s/Independent Engineer through FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
• Review OEM proposals and EPC designs for clients.
• Lead technical due diligence for developers, investors, and lenders.
• Provide technical oversight of load flow, protection, dynamics, grounding, harmonic studies.
