Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a qualified engineer to provide technical leadership for battery energy storage system (BESS) technologies across our growing storage portfolio. The role requires evaluating major equipment, managing the vendor list, and supporting procurement strategies.

You will collaborate with Energy Storage Engineering, Supply Chain, Project Management, and external suppliers, traveling 5-15% as needed.

Qualifications

BS in Engineering from ABET-accredited program (MS may substitute).
Minimum of 4 years engineering experience for Engineer III.
Minimum of 6 years engineering experience for Senior Engineer.

Responsibilities

Lead technical evaluations of BESS equipment and manage the Approved Vendor List.
Support supplier qualification activities, including FATs and audits.
Partner with Supply Chain on RFPs and procurement strategies.
Assess designs, lifecycle, spare parts, and augmentation planning.
Support design, construction, commissioning, and readiness of energy storage facilities.
Evaluate risks related to interconnection, controls, and grid integration.
Develop technical reports, recommendations, specs, and designs.
Monitor industry developments and advise stakeholders on new tech and standards.
Maintain relationships with manufacturers, integrators, EPCs, and partners.
Travel 5–15% domestically and internationally.
