Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior energy consultant in Chicago to help clients navigate the energy transition, from new generation and grid modernization to data center campus development. You will work on high-impact projects, collaborating with industry experts, and building a career in energy and infrastructure consulting.

The role is full-time and client-facing, requiring leadership on workstreams, strong analytical abilities, and experience with utilities, IPPs, developers, and investors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, finance, business, public policy, or related field.
• 10+ years in energy/power industry with at least three years in consulting.
• Experience with utilities, independent power producers, project developers, grid operators, or energy investors.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, incl. quantitative models and financial analysis.

Responsibilities

• Help clients define and execute strategies for new and existing power projects and support operations improvements.
• Lead and contribute to project economic and cost analyses, risk assessments, and contracting strategies.
• Support or manage technical due diligence and owner’s engineering reviews for power and energy projects.
• Provide client program and project management support, improving governance, processes, controls, and stakeholder alignment.
• Develop conceptual plans with Sargent & Lundy’s technical teams.
• Prepare and present project implementation strategies to client executives and teams.
• Translate complex technical findings into client-ready deliverables (presentations/reports).
• Lead discrete workstreams within larger engagements.
• Coordinate day-to-day activities of junior team members and review their work.
• Contribute to business development, including proposal prep and client relationship building.
