Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an Energy Storage Electrical Application Engineer at Engineer III/IV level to support battery energy storage projects through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. The role collaborates with project development, supply chain, and operations to standardize equipment and ensure safety compliance.

The position offers in-house engineering services across North America, with opportunities for growth into senior levels and a hybrid work model at multiple offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 4+ years of electrical/power engineering, energy storage preferred.
• Ability to independently lead technical reviews and drive issue resolution.
• PE license preferred (EIT/PE accepted).

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for battery energy storage systems across full lifecycle.
• Lead technical evaluations and due diligence for storage tech and vendors.
• Develop and maintain technical equipment specifications for BESS components.
• Support Supply Chain with technical reviews, vendor qualification and bid evaluations.
• Identify and resolve technical risks, design gaps and constructability issues.
• Provide engineering support during construction and review field changes.
• Review vendor proposals, drawings and data to verify code compliance.
• Ensure battery energy storage systems meet safety and code requirements.
• Drive standardization and cost optimization across the portfolio.
