Job summary

Central Michigan University seeks a Senior Energy Facility Operator to manage operation and maintenance of high pressure steam boilers, chillers, generators, cooling towers and related systems to meet campus energy demands.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, apprenticeship or equivalent training, and strong reading of blueprints with excellent communication and safety practices. Shifts include 12-hour rotations with rotating days/nights.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a formal apprentice program or equivalent training and experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
• Ability to follow and interpret directions.
• Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.

Responsibilities

• Operates high pressure steam boilers with automated and manual controls to maintain campus steam demand.
• Maintains boilers, chillers, generators, cooling towers, steam traps and related pumps.
• Keeps the Central Energy Facility clean and orderly.
• Maintains radio and telephone contact with campus and outside vendors as needed.
• Keeps operating records and logs up to date.
• Performs touch up painting on equipment, pipes, floors and walls.
• Performs minor carpentry work.
• Operates absorption and centrifugal chillers to maintain campus chilled water demand.
• Operates etc. diesel, steam and gas turbine driven generators.
• Operates and maintains cooling towers.
• Performs preventative maintenance and lubrication.
