Job summary

Willdan Energy Solutions is seeking a Senior Field/Sales Engineer to lead energy, electrification, and decarbonization assessments for diverse customers in a fast-growing regional team.

You will develop energy-saving solutions aligned with program goals, craft ROM estimates, and collaborate with engineers to assess incentives and documentation. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6; 8+ years’ preferred experience in energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, and/or facilities energy management best practices.
• Ability to lead, delegate, coordinate, and track project team tasks, including senior-level subject matter experts and junior engineers.
• Experience self-performing investment-grade facility energy assessments and data collection focusing on pumps and motors, HVAC, lighting, hot water, building automation, and process loads.
• Experience with distributed energy resources such as solar, battery, thermal energy storage, cogeneration, and related infrastructure.
• Experience with customer-facing engagements that facilitate an accelerated sales cycle within performance contracting and consulting contexts.
• Understanding of energy efficiency, conservation, integrated demand side management, and decarbonization principles and calculation techniques.
• Familiarity with Municipal operations, public works, sustainability departments, and varying funding pathways.
• Familiarity with institutional customer operations (universities, college districts).
• Familiarity with ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs administered by RENs, CCAs, IOUs.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and support field engineering staff to meet specified service cycle times.
• Manage task assignments within hours/budget and scale efforts for maximum client value.
• Coordinate, lead, and participate in client and customer meetings; coordinate team involvement.
• Conduct field work from ASHRAE Level 1 audits to investment-grade audits on time and budget.
• Collaborate with program management, operations, and outreach to integrate planning and technical approaches.
• Lead ROM cost estimates and energy saving estimates to support the sales cycle.
• Evaluate funding sources including customer capital, rebates, and external financing.
• Provide technical owner's rep services during bids and develop scopes of work and initial designs.
• Communicate with professionals across departments and manage competing priorities.
• Support long-term customer relationships and new business development.
• Train and mentor junior engineering staff.
