Job summary

Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMC) seeks an Employment Law Specialist on a full-time on-site basis in Buffalo. The role supervises and assists with administration of labor and employee relations, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws.

You will collaborate with management, employees, and union representatives, and may assist in negotiations and policy development. Requires NYS Bar admission and relevant labor relations experience.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS-registered law school and one year of experience as a licensed attorney performing labor or employee relations in the public sector or healthcare setting.
• Admission to the New York Bar and possession of a license to practice law in New York at time of application and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.
• Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Ensures compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying legislation and advising management on required actions.
• Conducts investigations and represents ECMCC in employment law matters.
• Represents ECMCC in labor and employee relations matters including grievances, arbitrations, unemployment, harassment, discrimination, workplace violence, and DOL/DOH matters.
• Counsels management on proper employee relations practices to maintain performance and morale while ensuring compliance with CBAs and laws.
• Prepares interpretation and guidance on contract language, ECMCC policies, and applicable laws.
