Job summary

General Motors is seeking an embedded C++ software engineer to develop safety-critical software for the telematics control unit, spanning embedded systems, vehicle communications, diagnostics, cloud-connected services, and cellular/telephony behaviors. You will move between architecture discussions, in-vehicle debugging, and supplier collaboration to ship reliable software that works in the real world.

Qualifications

  • BS in CS/CE or related field with 4–6 years of relevant experience or equivalent
  • Strong C++ in embedded or systems-level environments
  • Experience on automotive embedded systems and CAN basics
  • Familiar with cloud-connected systems and cellular/telephony protocols
  • Ability to translate requirements into software architecture and plans
  • Experience diagnosing defects and driving corrective action through closure

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of technical solutions for current and major programs, including requirements, design, implementation, test strategy, and issue resolution
  • Drive software design for the system team and lead anomaly investigations and verification
  • Perform complex design analysis balancing performance, safety, maintainability, and scalability
  • Develop embedded C++ software on telematics units including safety-critical components
  • Debug software and system behavior in vehicle, lab, and integration environments
  • Collaborate with suppliers for end-to-end resolution and validation follow-through
  • Promote common engineering best practices across the team
  • Act as SME for at least one platform area and support architectural reviews
