Job summary

General Motors is seeking an embedded software engineer to build safety-critical C++ software for telematics control units. You will work across embedded systems, vehicle networks, diagnostics, cloud services, and cellular behavior, tracing issues between hardware and software boundaries.

You will lead design analyses, collaborate with suppliers, and drive end-to-end verification while maintaining high quality and safety standards. This hybrid role may include relocation assistance.

Qualifications

  • BS in CS/CE/Math/IT or related field with 4–6 years of relevant experience (or 8+ with alternate degree).
  • Strong C++ in embedded or systems environments.
  • Experience on automotive embedded systems development, debugging, and validation.
  • Familiarity with CAN and vehicle communication fundamentals.
  • Experience with cloud-connected systems and cellular/telephony protocols.
  • Ability to translate requirements into software architecture and plans.
  • Ability to investigate defects and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Clear communication across engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Able to work with moderate autonomy while escalating risk when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of technical solutions for current and future programs, from requirements to verification.
  • Drive software design for the system team and mentor anomaly investigations.
  • Perform design analysis and tradeoffs across functionality, quality, and safety.
  • Develop embedded C++ software on telematics units including safety-critical components.
  • Debug in vehicle, lab, and integration environments.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for end-to-end issue resolution and validation.
  • Promote software engineering best practices across the team.
  • Act as SME for at least one platform area and contribute to reviews and direction.
