Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Developer to join the COMSEC team within the Core Systems and Components group. You will design, develop, and test embedded software for secure communications, collaborating with FPGA Designers to ensure robust hardware/software integration across the software development lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience with real‑time operating systems (RTOS).
• Strong understanding of hardware/software interfaces, including SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, and similar protocols.
• Experience working with FPGA interfaces and register‑level hardware integration.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
• Understanding of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles as defined by NIST SP 800‑207 and the DoD Zero Trust Reference Architecture.
• Experience developing and deploying Secure Boot and measured boot processes to ensure platform integrity.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software for COMSEC systems.
• Collaborate closely with Electrical Circuit and FPGA Designers to ensure seamless hardware/software integration.
• Drive work across all phases of the software development lifecycle — from requirements and architecture through implementation, code review, verification, and deployment.
• Develop low‑level drivers and firmware for embedded hardware platforms.
• Support hardware bring‑up, debugging, and verification activities.
• Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, and documentation.
• Develop and execute software verification and validation plans, including unit, integration, and automated regression tests.
• Implement and maintain secure communications and cryptographic capabilities in compliance with applicable standards.
• Design and integrate device authentication mechanisms and identity management solutions into embedded platforms.
• Support the development and implementation of Zero Trust security principles within embedded system architectures.
• Ensure software development adheres to applicable standards and security requirements.
