Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an Electronics Design Engineer to join the COMSEC team, delivering secure communication hardware for space systems. You will collaborate with Cybersecurity, Software, and FPGA engineers across the full hardware lifecycle, from design through validation and launch campaigns.

The role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, radiation-hardening design, and mentorship of junior engineers within a safety‑conscious, inclusive culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field required.
• 10+ years of experience in electrical hardware design and aerospace exposure preferred.
• Experience with FPGA-based designs and cross-team collaboration.
• Knowledge of radiation hardening and space environment considerations.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and verification of secure communications hardware (COMSEC) systems.
• Collaborate with Cybersecurity, Software, and FPGA teams across full hardware lifecycle.
• Fabrication, assembly, and testing of hardware; build/modify wire harnesses; solder components.
• Design for radiation tolerance; select components to meet radiation requirements.
• Define and execute hardware verification and validation plans.
• Troubleshoot hardware issues and support vehicle-level testing and launches.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Ensure designs meet standards, requirements, and security protocols.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field

Master’s degree in a related technical discipline

10+ years of experience in electrical hardware design

Experience with FPGA-based designs

Experience designing high speed digital systems

Strong understanding of space radiation environment effects on electronics

Ability to collaborate across cross-disciplinary teams
