Job summary

The Panther Group is seeking an Embedded Linux / RTOS Engineer for a client site in Sterling Heights, MI. This is a 100% on-site role with W2 employment; no C2C or visa sponsorship is available.

You will contribute to software loading, verification, embedded Linux, and real-time operating systems across vehicle electronic systems, building robust software for Linux-based platforms and secure architectures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/CE/EE or related field.
• 5–7 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with C and/or C++ development.
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming (processes, threads, timers, interrupts).
• Experience with complex existing systems and codebases.
• Experience with hardware bring-up and low-level debugging.
• Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Experience with Linux system image build tools (Yocto or Buildroot).
• Experience with VxWorks and debugging tools.
• Experience with Linux system programming, drivers, bootloaders, memory maps, or kernel development.
• Familiarity with Git and software development tools.
• Strong written, verbal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, document, and maintain software architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs.
• Develop and integrate complex software components into fully functional systems.
• Develop software verification plans, test procedures, and test environments; execute testing and document results.
• Load software images and deploy official software releases in laboratory environments and vehicles.
• Build and configure VxWorks, Linux, and other embedded operating systems.
• Perform Linux system programming, including driver development and hardware enablement.
• Integrate software into embedded build systems.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software.
• Troubleshoot low-level software issues and distinguish between hardware and software problems.
• Support system performance optimization and complex software pipelines.
• Enable embedded system security using cryptography and secure architectures.
• Manage individual priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
