Job summary

Checkpoint Systems, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Embedded Linux Platform to design, develop and maintain Linux-based services on RFID readers and edge devices. You will work across edge networks, cloud integration, device telemetry and on-device UI components, contributing to field-ready software.

The role emphasizes ownership, collaboration with cross-functional teams and mentoring while staying hands-on in design, implementation and validation of platform software.

Qualifications

• Strong Linux experience with system services, networking, permissions and troubleshooting.
• Proficient Python development for production software, services, tooling or automation.
• Experience developing microservices, REST APIs and service-to-service integration.
• Familiarity with systemd, Linux service management and troubleshooting long‑running services.
• Proficient in Git workflows, peer review and collaborative software development.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex interactions among software, Linux, networking, hardware interfaces and cloud-connected services.
• Experience with unit, API, integration and end-to-end testing in production environments.
• Understanding of secure software practices and basic security for connected Linux devices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain embedded Linux-based services, microservices and system components using Python, Bash and other languages.
• Design software architecture for new platform capabilities and evaluate tradeoffs for performance and reliability.
• Implement and maintain REST APIs used by local services, on-device UI components and cloud-connected services.
• Integrate software with firmware and hardware interfaces including RFID, GPIO, networking and sensors.
• Develop and support OTA/software update, provisioning and remote device management flows.
• Build telemetry, logging and diagnostics to support QA, Field Service and manufacturing teams.
• Develop and maintain container-based services or workflows for Linux edge devices.
• Write tests for embedded Linux and edge-device environments (unit, API, integration, regression, system).
• Contribute to build pipelines, packaging flows and software release processes.
• Participate in peer code reviews and ensure code quality and security standards.
