Job summary

Union County, NC Department of Social Services seeks a Senior Eligibility Specialist to lead and perform eligibility determinations for Food and Nutrition, TANF, Medicaid, and related programs.

The role includes supervising a unit, training new staff, and ensuring accuracy in client eligibility; data gathering, document review, and reporting are key duties. Strong communication and NC FAST proficiency are valued.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree and 3+ years of paraprofessional or public contact experience.
• Typing 30 wpm; NC FAST experience; basic Excel knowledge.
• Fluent in English and Spanish (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Determine and redetermine eligibility for income maintenance programs.
• Gather and review income, resources, and residency; compute budgets.
• Explain program requirements and advise clients or refer to services as appropriate.
• Train and mentor lower-level staff on policies and NC FAST navigation.
