Extension, Inc. in Wisconsin seeks a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to own electrical components and subsystems across the product lifecycle, collaborating with hardware, embedded software, controls, and suppliers to deliver robust, production-ready solutions.

This hands-on role requires strong fundamentals in analog/digital electronics, sensors, power and grounding, signal integrity, and diagnostics, plus the ability to lead root-cause investigations and document design changes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical hardware, embedded systems, electronic controls, component engineering, or related product development.
  • Experience taking electrical hardware through multiple phases of the development lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics, sensors, power and grounding, signal integrity, communication interfaces, diagnostics, and failure analysis.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, technical specifications, component documentation, and engineering test data.
  • Experience with engineering requirements, design reviews, verification and validation, and structured problem solving.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and integration of electrical and electronic components from requirements through validation and production.
  • Define technical requirements and interfaces for sensors, electronic modules, and related hardware.
  • Evaluate component performance, electrical interfaces, signal quality, power and grounding, communications, diagnostics, and potential failure modes.
  • Collaborate with embedded software, controls, systems, and validation engineers during product development and integration.
  • Work directly with suppliers on technical requirements, design reviews, testing, issue resolution, and production readiness.
  • Develop and execute component and system verification and validation activities.
  • Support electrical, environmental, durability, and electromagnetic compatibility testing.
  • Analyze engineering data and lead structured troubleshooting and root-cause investigations.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including requirements, risk assessments, validation plans, technical specifications, test reports, and design changes.
  • Support prototype development, system integration, production readiness, and technical issue resolution.
  • Identify technical risks and coordinate solutions across engineering, quality, manufacturing, validation, and supplier teams.
