Job summary

Applied Engineering in Milwaukee, WI seeks an Electrical Design Engineer to lead design and validation of major electrical subsystems. You will own schematics, drive reviews, and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. Occasional travel up to 20% is required.

The role emphasizes safety, compliance, and performance across the product lifecycle, with opportunities to mentor early-career engineers and contribute to community-impact projects in the greater Milwaukee area.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
5-8 years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems.
Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration.
Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, and generators.
Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC, UL, and industry derating criteria.
Proven experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
Working knowledge of design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance practices.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical power solutions.
Ability to specify safe and effective prototype testing practices.
Detail-oriented, proactive, and effective in fast-paced environments.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering data management systems preferred.
Capable of working independently and as a team member.
Strong work ethic and unwavering integrity.

Responsibilities

Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas.
Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs.
Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material.
Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams.
Mentor early-career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards.
Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution.
Stay current with advancements in power systems, microgrids, renewable energy, and power conversion technologies.
Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners.
Contribute to projects that impact communities in the greater Milwaukee metro.
