Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Senior Product Design Electrical Engineer for the EPS team within AWS Data Center Engineering. You will lead design of critical electrical power distribution equipment across global data centers, collaborating with internal and external partners to meet reliability and cost goals.

You will drive DFx, validate prototypes, and ensure compliance with UL/CSA/IEC standards while coordinating with suppliers, field teams, and manufacturing across geographies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with data center electrical equipment and systems.
• Ability to develop solutions for complex projects and lead design teams.

Responsibilities

• Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
• Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers, including medium voltage switchgear, medium voltage transformers, low voltage switchgear, generators, busduct, transfer switches, power distribution cabinets, and other electrical infrastructure.
• Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing and specialized tooling requirements.
• Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
• Validate design through prototype, pre-production and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
• Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
• Provide support for manufacturing activities for new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
• Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
