Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a seasoned Lead Electrical and Instrument Designer to coordinate with Designers and Engineers on multiple industrial projects.

The role requires field walks, client meetings, and developing multi-disciplinary proposals to meet project goals. You will oversee schedules, budgets, and a design and drafting team, review vendor drawings, ensure NEC compliance, and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

• Ten (10)+ years electrical & instrument design experience with clients in pipeline, chemical, refining, terminal, and/or power industries.
• High School Diploma is required.
• Design/drafting experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation products.
• Thorough understanding of CAD systems and general Office software.
• Working knowledge of the NEC and industry standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD 2D & AutoCAD Plant 3D; 3D modeling.
• Experience with InTools.
• Self-starter who can work independently with little direction.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Has or can acquire: TWIC, OSHA Basic, DISA Background, other required training.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed engineering schedules and man-hour budgets for projects.
• Perform site visits and field walks.
• Coordinate and develop drawings and documents for projects.
• Develop and compile engineering design packages.
• Support multiple projects in a team environment.
• Assist Engineers and mentor Designers in design and drafting of installation drawings.
• Review vendor shop/fabrication drawings and documents.
• Ensure compliance with client, industry, and Orbital guidelines and standards.
• Perform quality control checks on design packages.
• Manage and schedule a design and drafting team.
• Develop estimates and proposals for new multidisciplinary work.
