Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. in Baton Rouge, LA seeks an experienced Electrical and Instrument Designer to support multiple industrial projects. You will collaborate with Engineers and Designers, meet with clients, and perform field walks to ensure design accuracy and timely delivery.

The role requires strong CAD skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Plant 3D), 3D modeling, and NEC knowledge. On-site work, team coordination, and proposal development are key components of this position.

Qualifications

• Five (5) plus years’ electrical and instrument design and technician experience with clients in pipeline, chemical, refining, terminal, and/or power industries.
• High School Diploma is required.
• Design/drafting experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Thorough understanding of CAD software and general Office products.
• Working knowledge of NEC and industry standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD 2D & AutoCAD Plant 3D and 3D Modeling.
• Experience with InTools.
• Self-starter with minimal direction.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing detailed engineering schedules and man-hour budgets for projects.
• Perform site visits and field walks.
• Coordinate and develop drawings and documents for projects.
• Develop engineering design packages.
• Work in a team environment supporting multiple projects.
• Assist Engineers and guide junior Designers in installation drawings.
• Review vendor shop/fabrication drawings/docs.
• Ensure adherence to Client, Industry, and Orbital guidelines.
• Quality control of design packages.
• Manage and schedule a design and drafting team.
• Develop estimates and proposals for multi-disciplinary work.
