Job summary

Spencer Ogden seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to drive the design and execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects in the Houston area. You will oversee substation and transmission line designs, electrical studies, and automation for AIS/GIS assets across development, construction, and operations stages.

The ideal candidate has a PE license, 7+ years in HV/MV electrical engineering, and experience with ETAP/CYMCAP/WinIGS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 7+ years of electrical engineering experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
• Strong knowledge of medium- and high-voltage substation equipment, relay protection, and transmission design.

Responsibilities

• Oversee substation, transmission line, and electrical collection system designs for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Develop and review substation layouts, grounding plans, cable/conduit plans, power distribution diagrams, BOMs and related deliverables.
• Support AIS and GIS substation design with HV applications.
• Review design packages and specifications while coordinating with external contractors.
• Oversee electrical studies and calculations (short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, etc.).
• Provide technical support for operating renewables assets (substations, lines, collection systems).
• Support commissioning, energization, and maintenance of technical documentation.
• Review maintenance records and support compliance with NERC standards.
• Participate in root cause analyses and lessons-learned reviews.
• Develop improvement projects with scopes, budgets, schedules, and RFPs.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure deliverables meet requirements.
