Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead design project teams across power, process, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors in Chicago. You will drive electrical design from concept through construction, aligning with budget, schedule, and client needs.

You will mentor engineers, review drawings, interface with vendors, and contribute to proposals and client reports. The role requires PE preferred, ABET-accredited degrees, and strong communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years of electrical engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred.
• ABET-accredited Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering Technology or related; FE exam completed and 7+ years experience; EPC preferred.
• Master's in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years experience; EPC preferred.
• Expert knowledge of electrical concepts and ANSI/IEEE standards; strong computer skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks.
• Proven critical thinking and problem-solving in quantitative environments.
• Ability to travel.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Prepare electrical equipment specifications, RFQs, data sheets, and purchase recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients and other disciplines.
• Develop project schedule, scope, budget, staffing and construction planning; manage changes.
• Provide guidance to the electrical engineering practice; mentor junior engineers.
• QA/QC adherence and coordination with field personnel.
