Job summary

Gillig in Livermore, CA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead complex electrical design efforts for transit vehicles. You will own electrical architectures, define BOMs, and collaborate with mechanical, controls, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.

You will apply expertise in CANbus, EMC/EMI, power distribution, grounding, and thermal management, reviewing designs, conducting DVP&R with test engineers, and guiding changes through PCO and REI releases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical) required or preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering experience in automotive or heavy-duty vehicle environments.
• Experience with BOM control, modular BOM management, and document control.
• Hands-on experience with harness design and CAD tooling (Zuken or Capital).
• Familiarity with DFM/DFS and cost-conscious design practices.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain BOMs, defining application of parts and assemblies; input on modular BOM structure to improve efficiency.
• Assess supplier components and existing designs to optimize concepts.
• Analyze designs for power, grounding, EMC, signal integrity, and thermal management.
• Perform design trade-offs to create robust, manufacturable concepts.
• Use ECAD tools to create, review, and release components, schematics, and harnesses.
• Master Customer & Design REI releases; engage in BOM structuring, Change Control, PCO, and Engineered Production Change.
• Support designs through lifecycle from development to production, variant designs and field support.
• Collaborate with test engineers to create DVP&R and review test results; provide input to publications.
• Provide input to technical publications and maintain documentation across design platforms.
• Collaborate with mechanical, controls, manufacturing, and production teams; propose solutions to senior engineers or management.
