Job summary

Standard Bots in Glen Cove, NY is seeking a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the hardware for Bolt's mobile base, spanning mechanical and electrical design through prototype builds, testing, and safety certification.

You will own the power system, specify battery packs, BMS, and chargers from vendors, and drive critical architecture decisions while mentoring a growing hardware team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years designing, building, and testing power systems and PCBAs.
• Led hardware of an AMR or comparable mobile robot through safety certification.
• Experience with ISO 3691-4, ANSI/RIA R15.08, UL 3100 safety certification and evidence packages.
• Mastery of high-current distribution, pre-charge and protection circuits, DC/DC conversion, motor-drive power stages, and regen/bus capacitance behavior.
• Working knowledge of BMS behavior (balancing, SoC/SoH, protection limits, CAN) and integration of vendor packs/chargers.
• Knowledge of IEC 62133/UL 2271 at pack interface and EMC testing considerations.
• Demonstrated leadership through an NPI cycle and strong design feedback.
• Proficiency in Altium Designer, LTspice, and Python for testing.
• Ability to document designs clearly and perform rigorous design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Bolt hardware team of mechanical and electrical engineers and drive design decisions to closure.
• Own the hardware side of AMR safety certification, including ISO 3691-4, ANSI/RIA R15.08, and UL 3100 processes.
• Contribute as an individual contributor where most impactful.
• Specify and integrate battery packs, BMS, and chargers from vendors, including CAN communications.
• Drive architecture decisions through requirements and trade studies (pack capacity, drive configuration, thermal).
• Perform hands-on work: schematic capture, high-current PCB layout, bring-up, test plans, and root-cause debugging.
• Design for safety and certification including fault analysis and safe power cut-off paths.
• Hire, mentor, and grow the hardware team and coordinate with vendors.
