Job summary

JLRD, Inc. in West Palm Beach, FL, is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to own end-to-end electrical design scopes, produce Revit MEP models and documents, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across offices.

The role emphasizes QA/QC, mentorship, and client-focused design delivery. You will collaborate with Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers, report to the Electrical Department Lead, and work on healthcare, education, government, and commercial projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5–10 years of MEP electrical design experience in institutional, commercial, healthcare, education, or government facilities.
  • Proficient in Revit MEP for electrical design production, including templates and coordination workflows.
  • Working knowledge of SKM Power Tools or ETAP for power system analysis.
  • Navisworks for clash detection and coordination.
  • Strong NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, IBC, and Florida Building Code knowledge.
  • Demonstrated independent scope ownership on electrical design projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for client-facing and internal work.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end electrical design scopes on assigned projects across sectors and offices, from concept through construction documents.
  • Produce Revit MEP models and construction documents for power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, fire alarm, grounding, lightning protection, and low-voltage systems.
  • Perform load calculations, panel schedules, feeder and branch circuit sizing, and voltage drop analysis.
  • Support short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies using SKM Power Tools or ETAP.
  • Develop electrical specifications and technical scope narratives.
  • Prepare photometric layouts and lighting calculations.
  • Proactively coordinate with Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection designers on system integration.
  • Coordinate with architectural and structural teams on equipment placement, electrical room layouts, and pathway routing.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts before they reach the Project Engineer or Department Lead.
  • Perform clash detection using Navisworks and lead resolution meetings.
  • Mentor Junior Designers and mid-level Designers on system-level design understanding and Revit MEP best practices.
  • Support QA/QC review on team output, catching errors before deliverables leave the office.
  • Contribute to firm-wide Electrical discipline standards development and template maintenance.
  • Attend client design review meetings and represent the electrical design scope.
  • Support Construction Administration on RFIs, submittal review, and site observations.
  • Coordinate with the Electrical Department Lead on complex technical decisions and specialized systems.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Electrical Designer is a senior producer on JLRD's firm-wide Electrical discipline. This role owns entire electrical design scopes end-to-end, coordinates across disciplines proactively, mentors junior team members, and supports QA/QC on team output.

You will work across projects and clients regardless of which office originates them, collaborating with Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers across all JLRD offices. This position reports to our Electrical Department Lead.

Position is based in West Palm Beach or Merritt Island, Florida. On-site.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Electrical Design Production

  • Own end-to-end electrical design scopes on assigned projects across sectors and offices, from concept through construction documents

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (equivalent experience considered)
  • 5 to 10 years of MEP consulting electrical design experience in institutional, commercial, healthcare, education, or government facilities
  • Revit MEP proficiency for electrical design production, including families, templates, and coordination workflows
  • Working knowledge of SKM Power Tools or ETAP for power system analysis
  • Navisworks for clash detection and coordination
  • Deep code knowledge in NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 72, IBC, and Florida Building Code
  • Demonstrated independent scope ownership on electrical design projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication for client-facing and internal work

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Healthcare electrical experience, including FGI and AHCA compliance, essential electrical systems, and medical equipment coordination
  • Education sector experience, including K-12 and higher education (Florida SREF compliance a plus)
  • Federal facilities experience, including UFC and USACE design standards
  • Aviation or transportation facility experience
  • Low-voltage and security systems coordination (CCTV, access control, structured cabling)
  • Lightning protection and grounding system design
  • AGi32 or comparable photometric software
  • LEED accreditation

SCHEDULE

  • Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Friday, 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM (half-day Fridays year-round)
