Job summary

DoorDash is seeking a senior mechanical engineer for an on-site role in San Francisco. You will own motor design from concept to production, work with cross‑functional teams, and prototype with CNC and 3D printing in a fast-paced environment.

You have a mechanical engineering degree with 3+ years of experience, strong CAD skills, and experience with outdoor/hard‑environment hardware and electromechanical wiring. This is a senior role with autonomy and mentorship opportunities.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience.
• Experience with dynamic mechanical systems (motors, actuators, mechanisms).
• Strong 3D modeling (CAD) skills for complex parts and assemblies.
• Self-sufficient with basic structural and thermal simulation.
• Hands-on prototyping, metal fabrication, 3D printing.
• Competence with assembly and test fixture design.
• Familiar with electromechanical integration and wiring practices.
• Experience designing hardware for outdoor/harsh environments.
• Strong manufacturability and assembly methods understanding.
• Comfortable in an exploratory, fast-paced environment.
• Bonus for experience with electric motor manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Design rotor and stator structures optimized for mass and volume.
• Select bearings and design bearing systems.
• Choose wiring/connectors and integrate them.
• Select and integrate motor sensors (encoders, temperature).
• Perform structural and thermal FEA to optimize performance.
• Own motors from concept through production.
• Build prototypes, fixtures, and test hardware with CNC/3D printing.
• Design for outdoor operation with ingress protection.
