Job summary

DoorDash is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to design and develop high‑performance electric motors for UAV propulsion, with hands‑on prototyping in our San Francisco facility and collaboration across electrical, systems, and manufacturing teams.

You will own motor development from concept to production, build fixtures with CNC and 3D printing, and ensure operation in harsh outdoor environments while working in a fast‑paced, autonomous project.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• Experience with dynamic mechanical systems (motors, actuators, mechanisms).
• Strong 3D modeling (CAD) skills for complex parts and assemblies.
• Self-sufficient with structural and thermal simulation and hands-on prototyping.

Responsibilities

• Own motors from concept through production.
• Build prototypes, fixtures, and test hardware using CNC tools and 3D printers.
• Design mass/volume optimized rotor and stator structures, bearings, wiring, and integration.
• Design for outdoor, harsh environments and manufacturability.
