Job summary

DoorDash Canada seeks a senior mechanical engineer to design high‑performance motors for UAV propulsion. The role is based in San Francisco, on-site, with potential remote work and travel to suppliers as needed. You will own motors from concept to production in a fast-paced, prototype‑driven environment.

You will collaborate across engineering disciplines, build and test hardware in an in-house shop, and ensure designs meet harsh-environment requirements with manufacturability in mind.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering roles.
• Experience with dynamic mechanical systems (motors, actuators, mechanisms).
• Strong 3D CAD skills for complex parts and assemblies.
• Experience with basic structural and thermal simulation.
• Hands-on prototyping and metal fabrication experience.
• Ability to design hardware for outdoor/harsh environments.
• Understanding of manufacturability and assembly methods.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, exploratory setting.
• Bonus for experience with electric motor manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with electro-mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and other teams to refine motor requirements.
• Design mass and volume-optimized rotor and stator structures.
• Select bearings and bearing systems for reliability and performance.
• Select electrical wiring and connectors and integrate them into the system.
• Select and integrate motor sensors (encoders, temperature sensors, etc.).
• Perform structural and thermal FEA to optimize performance.
• Own motors from concept through production lifecycle.
• Build prototypes, fixtures, and test hardware using CNC and 3D printing.
• Design for outdoor commercial operation including ingress protection.
