Job summary

EDG Inc. is seeking a Sr. Distribution Design Technician in Lafayette to provide distribution engineering design and estimating services for lighting and distribution projects.

The role involves pole modeling for wind loading, joint-use attachments, and coordination with regulatory bodies. Strong experience with GDT, Ike Pole-Foreman, and Maximo is required. The position is full-time with a hybrid schedule, requiring weekly in-office attendance with some remote days.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent is required.
• Associates degree in Electrical Technology or Engineering Technology (or similar discipline) preferred.
• More than ten (10) years experience in a position that directly relates to the responsibilities above required.
• Two (2) or more years directly related experience may be considered with the Associates Degree as preferred, not required.
• GDT and Ike Pole-Foreman are required.
• Experience with a Utilities environment is preferred.
• Course work or on-the-job exposure to distribution design topics like AC voltage generation, impedance and voltage drop, three-phase power systems, system layout, overhead lines, underground distribution, substations, distributed generation, and protection concepts is desired.
• Estimating experience and some supervisory experience are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed distribution designs and cost estimates tailored to customer needs and timelines on complex projects.
• Run modeling software on poles and equipment to determine wind loading impact for current and future conditions (GDT, Pole-Foreman, Maximo).
• Coordinate with governmental regulatory bodies on planning, permitting, and technical issue resolution for complex projects (e.g., highway widenings, reconductoring, major feeder rebuilds).
• Perform field inspection duties such as patrolling distribution lines to assess current state and future needs.
• Maintain documentation and keep supervisor informed of status, issues, and needs.
• Facilitate interactions with external customers via phone, email, and meetings; provide records for significant meetings and update reports.
