Job summary

EDG is seeking a Distribution Engineering Designer in Lafayette with 5+ years of experience to deliver engineering design and estimating services for lighting, distribution, and joint-use projects for electric utility clients.

The role involves performing pole and equipment modeling, coordinating with regulatory bodies, and ensuring adherence to client procedures in a hybrid in-office/field setting. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Associates degree in Electrical Technology or Engineering Technology preferred.
• 5+ years of related experience; 2+ years may be considered with Associates.
• One year of experience or formal training in Graphic Tool design or electronic design software (e.g. GDT, Ike Pole-Foreman or Maximo).

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed distribution designs and cost estimates tailored to customer needs and timelines on complex projects.
• Run modeling software on poles/equipment to assess wind loading for current and future conditions (GDT, Ike Pole-Foreman, Maximo).
• Coordinate with regulatory bodies on project planning, permitting, and issues for complex projects such as reconductoring or major feeder rebuilds.
• Adhere to client procedures and keep supervisor apprised of status and issues.
• Facilitate interactions with external customers and document significant meetings (email).
• Perform field inspections and support storm restoration as needed.
