Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Kubernetes Platform Engineer to own the EKS platform across the fleet and drive provisioning, upgrades, and safety standards. This remote-first role emphasizes scalable, automated infrastructure with strong emphasis on reliability.

You will mentor engineers, shape tooling with Terraform, Spacelift, ArgoCD, and move standards into policy-enforced defaults while partnering with cross-functional teams to meet workload needs and control costs.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software or infrastructure engineering
• 6+ years operating production Kubernetes at scale
• Strong cloud-native architecture on AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, EKS)
• Experience with “Infrastructure-as-Code” (Terraform, Spacelift a plus) and GitOps
• Go or Python production-grade Kubernetes tooling
• Leadership and cross-functional influence

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve the EKS platform strategy
• Lead provisioning, upgrades, teardown via IaC and self-service workflows
• Own reliability of core shared components and CI/CD
• Define workload safety standards (resource config, isolation, PDBs)
• Automate standards from research to policy-enforced defaults
• Establish observability, audits, and risk metrics
• Collaborate with cluster-user teams to shape the platform
• Drive cost and capacity strategy across nodes and EC2
• Mentor engineers and participate in on-call
• Triage production incidents with SRE
