Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking an experienced platform engineer to advance its EKS and Kubernetes platform at scale in a remote-friendly environment.

You will own provisioning, upgrades, and safety standards, while shaping the fleet with policy-driven automation and auditable, self-service workflows. We expect 10+ years in infrastructure engineering, heavy Kubernetes ops experience on AWS, Terraform/GitOps fluency, and Go or Python production tooling expertise.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software or infrastructure engineering with proven delivery of complex platform solutions.
• 6+ years hands-on operating production Kubernetes at scale, ideally EKS on AWS.
• Strong cloud-native architecture experience on AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, EKS).
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Spacelift a plus) and GitOps-style deployment pipelines.
• Expert-level proficiency in Go or Python and production-grade Kubernetes tooling.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve Affirms EKS platform, driving strategy across cluster lifecycle and shared components.
• Lead the technical direction for cluster provisioning, upgrades, and teardown via IaC and self-service workflows.
• Own reliability of core shared components and CI/CD pipelines that ship them.
• Define and enforce EKS workload safety standards including resource config and PDBs.
• Build enforcement/automation to move standards from research to policy-enforced defaults.
• Establish observability, audits, and reporting to identify hot spots and measure risk.
• Partner with cluster-user teams to understand workload needs and shape the platform.
• Drive cost and capacity strategy across node scaling and EC2 instance selection.
• Mentor engineers and lead operational excellence; participate in on-call rotations.
