Purpose:The Senior eCommerce Engineer designs, builds, and owns complex full-stack features on flooranddecor.com, operating with a high degree of independence across the front-end, back-end, and platform layers of the eCommerce technology stack. This role is a key technical contributor who translates ambiguous requirements into scalable, well-architected solutions.The Senior eCommerce Engineer is expected to bring strong platform expertise (e.g., Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WebSphere Commerce), deep full-stack engineering judgment across React and Java, and fluency with modern development practices — including AI-assisted (“vibe coding”) development — to accelerate delivery without compromising code quality, security, or platform stability. This individual also mentors junior engineers and helps raise the technical bar for the team.Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:Full-Stack Feature OwnershipDesign and build complex, full-stack features spanning React front-end applications and back-end services/APIsOwn features end-to-end — from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and post-release monitoringMake sound architectural and design trade-offs within an established feature area, escalating platform-level decisions to the Lead Engineer or ArchitectPlatform ExpertiseServe as a go-to expert on core commerce platform capabilities (catalog, pricing, promotions, cart/checkout, order management) within a large-scale platform such as Salesforce Commerce Cloud or WebSphere CommerceDesign and build integrations between the commerce platform and adjacent systems (OMS, payments, search, personalization, etc.)Identify and remediate platform performance, scalability, and reliability issuesEngineering ExcellenceWrite high-quality, well-tested, maintainable code and lead by example in code reviewsChampion test automation, observability, and secure coding practices across the features they ownResponsibly leverage AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development while validating output for correctness, security, and adherence to standardsMentorship & CollaborationMentor eCommerce Engineers through pairing, code review, and technical guidancePartner with product managers, designers, and QA to shape technical requirements and acceptance criteriaContribute to sprint planning, estimation, and technical documentationMinimum Qualifications4-7 years of professional software development experience, with strong full-stack expertiseAdvanced proficiency in React and modern front-end architecture, plus strong Java back-end development experienceDemonstrated experience designing and consuming RESTful/GraphQL APIs and third-party integrationsExperience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum deliveryPreferredHands-on experience with a large-scale eCommerce platform such as Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WebSphere Commerce, or a comparable enterprise platformDirect experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFRA/PWA Kit) or IBM WebSphere Commerce in a production, high-traffic environmentHands-on use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate feature deliveryExperience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerized/microservices architecturesFamiliarity with performance optimization, caching strategies, and site reliability practices for high-traffic eCommerce sitesBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experiencePerformance – Genuine care about performance as a customer experience problem, not a checkbox.
