Job summary

Selective Insurance is seeking an experienced E&S Brokerage Underwriter/Underwriting Specialist to support growth within authority guidelines. You will manage submissions from agents, apply underwriting rules, and provide risk analysis to price and bind new business, while mentoring junior staff.

You will work with General Agents and renewal staff to drive profitability, maintain service quality, and communicate decisions clearly.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of E&S underwriting experience preferred.
• College degree preferred.
• Insurance designations CPCU, ASLI, and AINS preferred.
• Must have valid state-issued driver’s license and travel ~15%.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and drive E&S brokerage new business within authority.
• Evaluate risk exposure and ensure proper pricing per guidelines.
• Provide guidance to General Agents and internal teams.
• Effectively communicate underwriting decisions and appetite to agents.
• Mentor lower-level associates and enhance underwriting knowledge.
