Job summary

Skyward Specialty Insurance Group seeks an E&S General Liability Senior Underwriter/AVP to underwrite middle market GL/E&S accounts, manage renewals, and mentor underwriting staff. The role emphasizes strong technical judgment, risk selection, and coverage structuring to drive profitable growth.

The Senior Underwriter will develop wholesale broker relationships, independently manage a renewal book, and lead efforts to improve underwriting governance and processes across the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 5+ years of General Liability underwriting experience.
• Experience underwriting middle market GL/E&S and wholesale broker relationships.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a middle market GL portfolio including new business and renewals.
• Evaluate risk and exposure across operations, loss history and financials.
• Develop coverage, pricing, and terms aligned with risk characteristics and rate adequacy.
• Structure and negotiate deals with wholesalers within delegated authority.
• Maintain underwriting governance and regulatory compliance.
• Mentor and support junior underwriters.
• Contribute to guidelines, workflows, and tool enhancements.
