Job summary

Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region seeks a Senior Donations Driver & Training Coordinator to operate donor pickups and deliveries across Mecklenburg and southern Iredell counties. You will mentor the driver team, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and maintain strong donor relations at Habitat ReStores.

You will report to the Logistics Manager, train new hires, manage route efficiency, and uphold Habitat standards while supporting a collaborative, mission-driven work environment.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Experience operating 16–26 ft straight trucks and delivering/donating items.
• Demonstrated customer service skills and professional conduct.
• Familiarity with DOT, DMV and FMCSA regulations and compliance.
• Ability to recruit, train, and mentor new Donations Drivers and riders.
• Commitment to Habitat Charlotte Region policies and code of conduct.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new Donations Drivers.
• Lead training and development of drivers, enforcing standards and procedures.
• Observe and conduct driver road tests and certifications.
• Review quarterly performance of Drivers/Riders and adherence to standards.
• Record and communicate truck maintenance and supply needs with Logistics Manager.
• Conduct daily huddle with Donations Drivers & Riders.
• Optimize daily routing and ensure all donations are picked up as scheduled.
• Ensure safe driving practices and professional donor interactions.
• Manage documentation for rejected items and provide receipts to donors.
• Represent Habitat professionally and provide exceptional internal/external service.
• Maintain DOT/DMV/FMCSA compliance for commercial vehicles.

Position Purpose

The Senior Donations Driver will drive company trucks and pick up and deliver donated items to locations across the service area, while serving as the primary trainer & mentor for the entire team of drivers. This position requires reporting to work at either Wendover ReStore or Mooresville ReStore, and driving to any or all locations within a service area that encompasses most of Mecklenburg County and southern Iredell County.

Essential Functions

• Assist in the recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding process for new Donations Drivers
• Responsible for initiating and improving the training & development of new hires and current Drivers, enforcing Habitat Charlotte Region standards and procedures such as service levels, communication, safe loading procedures, and phone etiquette
• Observe & conduct driver road test and certification
• Conduct a quarterly review of Donation Drivers/Riders performance and adherence to HCR standards & procedures
• Record & communicate truck maintenance & supply needs with Logistics Manager, ensuring fleet readiness
• Conduct daily communication huddle with Donations Drivers & Riders
• Review daily truck routing to maximize productivity and proficiencyEnsure all donations are picked up according to issued daily schedules
• Safely navigate from one pickup to another, complying with organizations policy regarding safe and lawful driving standards at all times
• Interact with donors in a courteous and respectful manner to coordinate delivery and pick up and provide them receipt records
• Assess and evaluate all donated items, ensuring they meet the acceptability standards for the ReStores
• Document all rejected items
• Demonstrate a positive and respectful attitude when interacting with employees, donors, volunteers, and the public
• Represent Habitat in a positive, professional manner
• Be an effective team member with working with staff
• Consistently provide an exceptional level of both internal and external customer service
• Regular and reliable job attendance including the availabitlity for rotation and on-call schedules
• Maintain full compliance with all applicable DOT, DMV, and FMCSA regulations pertaining to operation of commercial motor vehicles
• Other Habitat Charlotte Region-related tasks as requested by supervisor

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must be willing to report to locations within the entire service area as scheduled by manager, as far south as Pineville and as far north as Statesville
• Valid drivers license and clean driving record
• Dependable transportation to and from work
• Ability to adhere to Habitat’s Code of Conduct policies and other policies
• Knowledgeable about company products and services, and customer-related policies
• Possess experience and skills necessary to drive, maneuver, and safely operate any 16-26’ straight truck
• Driving records must meet the standards defined by Habitat Charlotte Region’s policies and insurance carriers
• Customer service experience

Work Environment

This position requires driving a delivery truck to locations within the service area in all types of weather, working in a warehouse/loading dock area in all types of weather, and working outdoors in all types of weather.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs with assistance, 50 lbs unassisted
• Ability to regularly stand, squat, bend, climb stairs, and climb in and out of cab and box truck during an 8+/- hour day
• Ability to work outside in all types of weather, including heat, cold, and rain

Estimated Time Commitment:

40+/- hours/week. Rotating schedule, Mondays-Saturdays between the general hours of 7:30AM-4:30PM as assigned by the manager. Overtime as required.
