Job summary

Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region is seeking a Backroom Supervisor for our ReStore in Cornelius, NC. The role involves supervising backroom operations, coordinating with leadership on incoming donations, and ensuring safe, efficient handling of merchandise.

You will oversee loading/unloading, cashier duties as needed, and maintain a positive volunteer and staff environment while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Basic computer skills and ability to operate POS systems.

• Strong verbal and written communication, and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Research, ticket and move merchandise to sales floor timely.
• Coordinate with store leadership on donations and merchandise placement.
• Oversee loading/unloading of donations with drivers.
• Ensure safe handling of merchandise per procedures.
• Supervise staff and volunteers, maintain safe/clean environment.
• Provide outstanding customer service and enforce conduct codes.
• Document corrective actions as needed.
• Open/close store and handle cash when required.
• Ensure meaningful volunteer experience and represent Habitat positively.

Position Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Job Shift: Rotating - Sunday through Saturday

Essential Functions (other duties as assigned)

• Ensure all items are researched, accurately ticketed and safely moved to the sales floor in a timely manner
• Collaborate with store leadership regarding the priority, timing, and placement of incoming donations/merchandise
• Responsible for working with all donation drivers regarding the loading and offloading placement of donations
• Guarantee safe and prompt handling of merchandise and donations according to processes, policies, and procedures
• Assist in the receiving of items that are dropped off when assistance is needed on the receiving dock
• Provide supervision and a safe and clean environment for employees, volunteers and customers
• Be an effective team member when working with staff and volunteers, ensuring the engagement and motivation of others
• Assist in ensuring that each customer receives outstanding customer service
• Demonstrate a positive and respectful attitude when interacting with employees, customers, donors, volunteers and the public
• Document and conduct Corrective Action as needed

Key-Carrying Supervisor responsibilities

• Responsible for independently opening and closing the store, and cash handling procedures
• Ability to read, count, and accurately complete reports and all end-of-day documentation
• Operate a cash register periodically, as needed
• Ensure a meaningful volunteer experience
• Represent Habitat in a positive manner to all donors, customers and others you come in contact with
• Regular and reliable job attendance and adherence to schedule
• Dependable transportation to work
• Maintain a presentable appearance, including ReStore appropriate attire
• Ability to adhere to Habitats Code of Conduct policies and other policies
• Habitat of the Charlotte Region-related tasks as requested by supervisor

Qualifications

Education/Skills:

• Basic computer skills
• Basic math or POS experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Management and Customer Service experience
• Show initiative

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to move merchandise throughout the store
• Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time
• Ability to lift 50lbs. with assistance
• Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, Saturdays, and periodic holidays
• Ability to obtain Forklift Certification and operate a forklift on a regular basis
• Ability to climb steps to Forklift cab

• Ability to engage and motivate staff as well as hold team members accountable in conjunction with store management

Estimated Time Commitment

40+ hours/week. Rotating Sunday - Saturday work week.

Shifts scheduled based on the needs of the store, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
