Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Sr Director, Business Development - Surety to lead the West Small Commercial Surety underwriting team. The role focuses on strategy, profitability, and growth across regional underwriters and agents, with travel to deepen relationships and implement market-driven plans.

The position requires extensive surety underwriting experience, leadership capability, and a track record of driving performance within a major insurance organization.

Qualifications

• Ten years’ experience in surety underwriting including at least five years management or consultant experience preferred.
• Undergraduate degree in business administration, insurance, risk management, economics or finance preferred.
• Actively pursuing AFSB, CPCU or other related insurance certification desired.
• Knowledge of surety underwriting standard methodologies, field underwriting operations, and related markets.
• Ability to manage and lead associates in all aspects of surety operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the profitable growth of the National Bond Center Small Commercial Surety West Team.
• Develop and implement standard methodologies; seek continuous improvement and efficiency gains.
• Track monthly production activity and provide growth estimates to leadership.
• Lead agent segmentation and marketing plan development; build relationships with key agents and large accounts.
• Support directors with underwriting activities and file audits; lead underwriting training initiative.
