Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Homeless Services is recruiting an Administrative Director of Social Services NM-I to function as a Deputy Director of Operations.

You will oversee shelter operations, ensure mandated services, and maintain regulatory compliance across facilities, collaborating with OTDA, NYPD, and program directors.

The role includes policy planning, incident investigations, and staff supervision with a shift pattern of 12am–8am, Sunday through Thursday.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and four years of progressively responsible experience, including one year at administrative or managerial level in a large governmental agency or related field.

Responsibilities

• Ensure shelter residents receive all mandated services in a safe, clean, secure environment.
• Oversee compliance with agency standards, OTDA regulations and local laws on sanitation, health, and environment.
• Spearhead planning, coordination, and execution of semiannual Callahan Inspections.
• Monitor security services and interface with FJC, DHSPD, NYPD and program Directors to address incidents.
• Oversee fire safety activities, drills, logs and essential building safety records.
• Provide supervision and respond to complaints regarding property loss, abuse or discrimination.
• Report and investigate incidents occurring on duty and ensure accurate census reporting and staffing coverage.
• Engage with community boards and participate in policy development and meetings.
• Provide supervision in the Director's absence and ensure staff on post and logs are maintained.
• Ensure staff have proper certifications and conduct employee evaluations.
