Every person deserves the opportunity to live a full, healthy life. According to the National Diabetes Statistics Report, 38.4 million people—11.6% of the U.S. population—have diabetes, and approximately 98 million adults have prediabetes. These chronic conditions are increasing, and many communities face significant barriers to prevention, diagnosis, and consistent, high-quality care.

Description

Every person deserves the opportunity to live a full, healthy life. According to the National Diabetes Statistics Report, 38.4 million people—11.6% of the U.S. population—have diabetes, and approximately 98 million adults have prediabetes. Obesity, a major contributing factor, affects about 42% of U.S. adults. These chronic conditions are increasing, and many communities face significant barriers to prevention, diagnosis, and consistent, high-quality care.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is committed to improving prevention, access to care, and chronic disease management for people living with diabetes and obesity—especially in resource-limited communities. By partnering with health systems, primary care teams, and community organizations, ADA implements community-centered strategies addressing clinical and social determinants of health to close access gaps and improve care coordination.

We seek a mission-driven Senior Director, Health Access and Quality to lead initiatives advancing ADA’s strategic goals in prevention, access, and chronic disease management. This key role focuses on driving sustainable, systems-level change by aligning health access initiatives with quality improvement and integrated care models. This is a grant funded opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of health access and quality initiatives focused on prevention, chronic disease management, and improved outcomes for people with diabetes and obesity.
  • Oversee strategic partnerships with health systems, primary care teams, and community organizations to implement scalable, evidence-based interventions.
  • Guide program strategy, planning, evaluation, and renewal to ensure alignment with ADA’s mission and community impact goals.
  • Collaborate across internal teams to support data-driven decision-making, integrated care models, and innovative community solutions.
  • Serve as the lead liaison for national, regional, or local board committees, ensuring initiatives support ADA’s strategic objectives.
  • Represent ADA at conferences, convenings, and strategic meetings to strengthen relationships, share learnings, and advance visibility of ADA’s health access and quality agenda.
  • Cultivate relationships with civic, social, and professional organizations to expand reach and build community-led solutions.
  • Contribute to policy, systems, and environmental change efforts through engagement with community assessments and advocacy-aligned programming.
  • Provide leadership to internal staff and partners, fostering cross-functional collaboration and high performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Public Health, Population Health, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in health access, community engagement, quality improvement, or public health leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead complex initiatives, manage partnerships, and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems, social determinants of health, and chronic disease care in limited-resource communities.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-sector collaboration, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills.
  • Skilled in project management, data analysis, and outcome reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel (20–25%).

  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), disability & life insurance, pet insurance, and retirement savings
