Job summary

Nuveen, the asset management arm of TIAA, seeks an experienced attorney to support its Private Placements and asset-backed securities initiatives within the Equities and Fixed Income division. You will provide hands-on counsel to management, manage complex debt-finance transactions, restructurings, and workouts, and liaise with external counsel across global matters.

Qualifications

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school, and bar in good standing; 5+ years advising clients in fixed income investments including asset-backed securities; experience in debt finance, restructurings, workouts or bankruptcies; strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides hands-on counsel to management and supports the operations of the legal department.
• Represents the organization in litigation, arbitration, mediation, or other disputes with courts and government agencies.
• Protects the organization's rights in contract negotiations, settlements and litigation.
• Negotiates and/or approves legal contracts, policies, and other documents across trade, financial and operational matters.
• Identifies, evaluates, and addresses legal risk.
• Researches and interprets proposed and existing laws and regulations.
• Advises management on changes in laws affecting the company.
• Liaises with external legal counsel on complex issues.
