Nuveen, the investment management arm of TIAA, is seeking a Senior Director/Associate General Counsel to support the asset management and investment management functions, focusing on private fixed income, asset-backed securities, and related restructurings. This role guides corporate, real estate, tax, governance and regulatory matters for Nuveen's Private Placements business.

Qualifications

• University (Degree) Preferred
• 5+ years’ experience advising clients in fixed income investments including asset-backed securities
• JD from an ABA-accredited law school and member in good standing of a state bar

Responsibilities

• Provides hands-on counsel to management and supports the operations of the legal department.
• Represents and advocates for the organization in litigation, arbitration, mediation, or other disputes.
• Protects the organization's rights in contract negotiations, settlements, and litigation.
• Negotiates and/or approves legal contracts, letters of agreement, policies, and other documents.
• Identifies, evaluates, and addresses issues of legal risk.
• Researches, analyzes, and interprets proposed and existing laws, statutes, and regulations.
• Advises management on recent changes in laws and regulations affecting the company.
• Liaises with external legal counsel on complex legal issues.
