Job summary

City of Boston seeks a Deputy Director for Capital Construction to plan and manage BRA/EDIC projects from pre-development through completion, overseeing staff and contracted designers. Ensure compliance with city, state, and federal requirements and approve tenant improvements.

You will direct project budgets, review contracts, and coordinate with the Coastal Resilience Delivery team on design, permitting, procurement, and commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible construction management in the public sector.
• Knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws for municipal design, public bidding and project delivery.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and coordinate BRA/EDIC projects including new construction and renovations.
• Supervise engineering staff and coordinate consultant teams.
• Develop RFPs/RFQs; review designs, drawings, and specifications.
• Oversee contracts; ensure bidding compliance and budget adherence.
• Administer capital construction budgets and approve invoices.
• Coordinate with Coastal Resilience Delivery on design, permitting, and construction.
• Prepare capital requests and seek state/federal funding where possible.
• Provide technical guidance to tenants and oversee final project inspections.
