Job summary

City of New York seeks a Deputy Director in the NYC Department of Design and Construction, Public Buildings Division, to supervise a team of project directors and project managers and oversee the design and construction of capital projects.

The Deputy Director will ensure projects meet target dates and budgets, interface with sponsor agencies, assist with approvals and permitting, and evaluate consultant and contractor performance.

Qualifications

• Full-time satisfactory experience in construction inspection on capital projects valued at least $15,000.
• Full-time satisfactory experience in building construction as a journeyperson in one or more trades.
• Education leading to a bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or related engineering fields; substitutions allowed with licensure.
• Six years of construction management experience, including at least eighteen months in a managerial or consultative capacity.

• Supervise a team of project directors and project managers.
• Oversee design and construction of capital projects; resolve issues and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
• Interface with sponsor agencies; assist with approvals and permitting; prepare consultant/contractor evaluations.
