Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a senior software engineer to lead the development of our digital twin and simulation stack at the Irving, TX office. This full-time role focuses on delivering end-to-end software for autonomous construction applications and coordinating with multiple engineering teams.

You will guide architecture, implement software processes, and mentor engineers while collaborating with robotic systems to ensure high quality, scalable solutions. Remote work not specified.

Qualifications

• Experience building simulation and rendering platforms.
• Experience in 3D object rendering and manipulation.
• Experience with mapping technology (GIS/OpenLayers).
• Experience with web graphics/animation libraries.
• Strong knowledge of designing, building, and using open source data and APIs (GraphQL).
• Experience designing, publishing and maintaining DB schemas (SQL/NoSQL).
• Experience setting best practices and processes for an engineering team.
• Experience using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Webpack, ESLint, Playwright).

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of the full-stack simulation software stack.
• Support hiring, technical interviewing and onboarding.
• Mentor and lead a team of software engineers.
• Define and implement software development and QA/QC processes.
• Participate in architecture and requirements discussions.
• Translate business requirements to software designs.
• Collaborate with Robotic and other teams to align needs and quality.
• Lead agile process definition and CI/CD discussions.
• Lead ideation sessions.
• Contribute flexibly to project needs.
