Job summary

Hub Group is seeking a Fleet Technician 3 in Salem, OR to diagnose, repair, and maintain class 8 tractor-trailer equipment. You will tackle diesel engines, power trains, electrical and HVAC systems, and aftertreatment devices, while performing PMs and tire repairs.

The role requires DOT-compliant maintenance, annual inspector and brake inspector certifications, and strong diagnostic skills with Detroit DD15 platforms. Tools, safety, and efficiency are emphasized.

Qualifications

4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Vocational / Technical or certification preferred.
Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills.
Expert understanding of fleet maintenance policies, DOT standards and industry practices.
Organized with the ability to deal with multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses required (FRTL or INTL), ASE Certification preferred, and 608/609 certifications preferred.
Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools) required.

Responsibilities

Comply with all safety and best practices and follow company SOP.
Demonstrate proficiency in repair and diagnosis of diesel engines, power train components, electrical, HVAC, steering, and more.
Performs all levels of preventive maintenance services on truck and trailing equipment.
Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for trade-ins and prepare new equipment for delivery.
Must be annual vehicle inspector certified and brake inspector certified (per DOT requirements).
Demonstrate welding skills in non-standard situations and on varying materials as needed (AU and steel).
Advanced skills with diagnostic software for Detroit DD15 engines, and DEF/after treatment repairs.
Identify and perform warrantable repairs and document on repair orders.
Use hand tools and power tools; maintain a clean and safe work area.
Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or verify performance.
Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
