Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on heavy trucks and equipment in the New York area. The role includes PMI, component repairs, and documentation using fleet maintenance software.

Applicants should have 3–5+ years as a Class A/B mechanic, with computer diagnostic experience and a background in waste management or heavy equipment being a plus; trade school training is preferred.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years’ experience as Class A or B mechanic.
• Computer diagnostic experience is required.
• Prior experience in waste management or heavy equipment/yellow iron dealership is a plus.
• Trade school or similar training is a plus.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and practices is essential.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment including diesel heavy trucks and engines.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMI) and troubleshoot; repair or replace major components.
• Document parts usage and repair times using fleet maintenance software.
• Assist in service calls for breakdowns and maintenance-related tasks.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with safety standards.
