Job summary

Hunt Companies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage accounting, funding administration, and financial reporting for our development and construction portfolio.

You will coordinate with management, lenders, and trustees on draws, change orders, and reserves, ensuring controls and timely reporting across ground-up and renovation projects. The role requires 4–6 years of accounting experience, proficiency with major ERP systems, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of accounting experience, preferably corporate accounting and reporting.
• Experience with JD Edwards- Enterprise One and/or other large ERP systems.
• Hands-on experience preparing and administering construction draw packages, including conditional draws and documentation.
• Experience with GAAP and internal control policies and procedures.
• Proficiency with construction job-cost or real estate accounting platforms (e.g., Sage 300 CRE/Timberline, Yardi, MRI, or similar).
• Familiarity with project management systems such as Procore preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, reviews, and submits monthly construction draw requests with documentation.
• Maintains a tracked log of funding conditions and clears items on schedule.
• Reconciles draws against budget, contract sum, and schedule of values; investigates variances.
• Coordinates with lenders, trustees, title companies, fund control agents, and inspectors on draw certification and timing.
• Administers retainage schedules and releases at completion per contract terms.
• Maintains sources-and-uses tracking across equity, debt, reserves, and government or partner contributions.
• Reviews and records change orders, documenting approval authority and funding source.
• Owns contract sum reconciliation including original value, change orders, and remaining contingency.
• Validates change orders against contract terms and pricing; flags inconsistencies.
• Tracks impact of changes on budget lines and funding availability; escalates when needed.
• Maintains audit trail linking change orders to authorizations, budget lines, draws, and payments.
• Manages job cost accounting for assigned projects and allocation of costs across projects.
• Applies capitalization vs expense rules for development costs; maintains CIP schedules.
• Prepares monthly budget-to-actual reporting with variance explanations; forecasts cost-to-complete.
• Maintains commitment register and reconciles to AP and GL.
• Reviews invoices for contract compliance and proper tax treatment.
• Supports PRA and ORA activity for development and construction.
• Supports cash flow forecasting and draw timing.
• Executes month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close for development entities.
• Prepares department-level financial statements and schedules; supports consolidation.
• Serves as primary preparer for external audits and lender certificates.
• Designs internal controls over draws, change orders, and reserve disbursements.
• Prepares reporting for military installations and government partners.
• Supports development budgets, reforecasts, and pro forma analyses.
• Prepares financial content for leadership reviews.
